One year ago, Liz Ortiz and Stacey Sickler hosted one of the first conversations in
The Work Beneath | Artist Talk Series called But I’m Not an Artist | a discussion centered around creative identity, self doubt, and the complicated experience of calling yourself an artist.
Now, one year later, they return to reflect on what has changed.
The uncertainty around identifying as artists has shifted into a new reality: knowing they are artists while simultaneously navigating periods where creating feels difficult, inconsistent, or impossible.
From “But I’m Not an Artist” to “I Am an Artist, But I’m Not Creating”: A Year Later is an honest conversation about burnout, creative exhaustion, health, survival, shifting priorities, and the emotional realities many artists quietly carry while navigating an increasingly overwhelming world.

No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Can't pay online? You're still welcome to attend, just come early, as seating is limited and first come, first served.
